In addition to the personal doctor of the Russian empress, who recommended Ospedaletti for its exceptional climate, other well known people have chosen to live and holiday here. The famous botanists Isnart and Beddington studied the characteristics of the area and created the beautiful gardens which we can still admire today.

Katherine Mansfield ,the writer from New Zealand, wrote her moving letters to her companion, Middleton Murray from Ospedaletti. She went to live there in 1919 having chosen the place for its mild climate and clean air. She suffered from TB and hoped to find a cure there.
